Miss Chick 2020

Hello again! Welcome to the page where I document my experience as Poultry Days Festival's 2020 Miss Chick! #chickenlove!

So what is Poultry Days Festival?

Poultry Days is a historic tradition of Versailles, Ohio, with a big focus on our community and coming together. Versailles has a rich history of poultry production, at times being known as the "Poultry Capital of the World," so no doubt, the chicken served at the festival is the best chicken out there! Community members and travelers alike wait hours in line for chicken, and it has been like this since Poultry Days was started officially in 1952. The festival is also home to an Ultimate Frisbee tournament, vendors, parades, carnival games and rides, baking contests, pageants, petting zoos, a 5k race, and more!  I highly recommend checking out our official website HERE!

But, Grace, then what is Miss Chick? And what does it have to do with Poultry Days?

Miss Chick is the Poultry Days pageant for women 16 and older, while there is a Little Miss Chick pageant for young girls. The pageant is based on an interview conducted between the individual applicants and local community panelists with different areas of expertise and then the public pageant on the Saturday of the festival. During the pageant, each young lady answers questions surrounding current events, local and world issues, and opinion-based questions about ethics, morals, and education. The applicants are not judged on their looks, however, this pageant is focused on the character and heart of each young woman present, giving her a platform to speak and address her community, demonstrate how she has impacted the community, how she values the community, and how she would represent both the festival and surrounding areas with dignity and grace. Three women on chosen to sit on the Miss Chick court each year dating back to the pageant's start in 1952, and I am so blessed to be the 2020 Miss Chick, sitting alongside my dearest friends Hannah Schmitz, First Runner Up, and Reganne O'Connor, Second Runner Up.
